404: Students’ Brilliance: Focusing on Math Identity and Agency

Understanding children’s mathematics identities can explain why some students make positive connections with mathematics and others do not. Too many students, particularly students of color, feel as if they must change significant parts of themselves to gain access to the resources and opportunities that other students receive automatically. The way students’ mathematics identity is shaped will be examined and strategies to support teachers in reframing students’ identities will be shared.
