Stories of black achievement in mathematics are seldom told, and for many these stories are assumed to be non-existent. In order to imagine a future that provides a freedom from low expectations of Black children, anti-black attitudes, and other forms of systematic violence, it is critical that we interrupt the "myth of absence" of Black mathematical achievement by learning about the extraordinary contributions of the people of the African Diaspora to society in general, and in particular to the mathematical sciences. In this presentation we will reflect on some of the ways in which people from throughout the African Diaspora have participated in and led the development of mathematics from pre-history to present day.
